Leading with Compassion: A Note from Our Founder, Kobie, on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a moment to pause, reflect, and honour the strength, resilience, and impact of women everywhere. As I think about my own journey—both as a woman and a founder—I’m reminded of the importance of leading with compassion, trusting my instincts, and staying true to my values, even in the face of challenges.

Starting and growing a business in psychology has been a deeply personal journey. It has reinforced my belief that leadership isn’t about titles or authority—it’s about the ability to listen, to nurture, and to create meaningful change. Compassion is at the heart of everything I do, whether it’s supporting clients, guiding my team, or shaping the future of this practice. It’s a value that allows us to build deeper connections, foster growth, and truly make a difference in people’s lives.

On this International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate the power of women everywhere—leading, inspiring, and making a difference in ways both seen and unseen. Together, we continue to break barriers, uplift one another, and redefine what leadership looks like.

In Celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8th)

Honouring the Legacy and Progress of Women

Each year on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) provides a moment to recognise the extraordinary contributions of women across all areas of society. Originating in the early 20th century, IWD has evolved into a global movement advocating for gender equality, celebrating progress, and acknowledging the work that still lies ahead. While we have seen remarkable advancements in education, business, and leadership, many challenges remain—from workplace inequality to the societal expectations placed on women.

The Power of Women in Leadership, Mental Health, and Business

Women play an integral role in shaping industries, particularly in psychology and mental health, where compassion and emotional intelligence are vital. As leaders, business owners, and mental health professionals, women bring unique strengths that foster connection, resilience, and meaningful change. Yet, despite these contributions, women often face barriers to leadership and recognition in their fields.

Compassionate Leadership: Breaking Barriers and Creating Change

True leadership is not about power—it’s about influence, integrity, and the ability to uplift others. When women lead with compassion, authenticity, and vision, they create environments that empower teams, inspire change, and challenge outdated structures. On this International Women’s Day, we honour the past, acknowledge the present, and continue working toward a future where all women can lead with confidence, strength, and purpose.

Leading with Compassion, Leaning into Women’s Power

Redefining Strength in Leadership

For too long, leadership has been associated with authority, control, and decisiveness—often at the expense of compassion. Yet, true strength is not about dominance but about the ability to connect, inspire, and uplift others. Compassion and resilience are not opposing forces; rather, they work together to create leaders who listen, support, and guide with purpose.

The Power of Empathy, Collaboration, and Emotional Intelligence

Women bring a unique leadership style that values collaboration over competition and understanding over intimidation. Research in both psychology and business shows that empathy and emotional intelligence lead to stronger teams, better decision-making, and healthier workplace cultures. When women embrace these strengths, they drive progress not only in their businesses but also in the lives of those they support.

Compassion as a Cornerstone of Leadership

Throughout my journey as a founder, I’ve seen firsthand how leading with heart fosters trust, loyalty, and real transformation. By embracing compassion as a guiding principle, women can lead with confidence, knowing that strength and kindness can—and should—coexist in leadership.

Channeling Strengths to Lead a Team, Business, and Support Clients

The Power of Compassionate Leadership in Action

Leadership isn’t just about making decisions—it’s about inspiring others, fostering trust, and creating a space where people can thrive. A compassionate leader understands that when a team feels valued and supported, they bring their best to their work. Businesses built on care and connection aren’t just successful; they create lasting impact.

Cultivating a Workplace Culture of Well-being and Growth

A truly strong leader doesn’t just focus on results; they prioritise the well-being and development of their team. In psychology and business alike, fostering an environment that encourages growth, open communication, and emotional safety leads to more engaged and motivated individuals. When leaders lead with understanding and empathy, they nurture stronger teams, healthier workplaces, and more meaningful client relationships.

Compassion in Practice: Supporting Clients and Making a Difference

In my own leadership journey, I’ve seen how compassion transforms not only my business but also the way we support clients. Mental health work is deeply personal, and by leading with heart, we create spaces for genuine healing, trust, and empowerment—for our teams, our clients, and ourselves.

Taking Inspiration from Other Women Leaders

Women-led businesses, like Modern Minds, show us what’s possible when leadership is built on compassion, authenticity, and purpose. The journey of balancing business, care, and personal fulfilment is one many women share, and it’s through these shared experiences that we grow stronger.

Leadership isn’t about standing alone—it’s about learning from those who came before us. Women who lead with integrity and empathy create a ripple effect, inspiring the next generation to step forward with confidence. By recognising and celebrating their impact, we continue to build a legacy of empowerment—one where strong, compassionate leadership paves the way for lasting change.

A Final Note: Honouring Women Everywhere

Women lead in countless ways—in business, families, and communities—shaping a better world. On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate their strength, wisdom, and impact.

But recognition shouldn’t be limited to one day. Every day is a chance to uplift, support, and empower women. When we embrace our strengths, lift each other up, and lead with confidence, authenticity, and kindness, we create lasting change—not just for ourselves, but for future generations.
